26 Mercedes-Benz C111-IV

Mercedes-Benz C111-IV To raise the record-breaking bar even higher, Mercedes finessed the C111 into the ultimate aero machine, with concealed wheels, an ultra-low front end, and a long, tapering rear. Its coefficient of drag of 0.183 made it the most aerodynamic car of its time. In its C111-IV guise, powered by a thundering 4.8-liter, twin-turbo, 500 hp V-8, the car was back at Nardo in May 1979, setting a world record speed of 251.07 mph.

Inside, Dauer have made the cockpit a more civil affair. Reinald Mattes spent considerable time to fitting two seats into a very tight cockpit. It's maximum torque is 700 Nm and comes out @ 5000 RPM. It is 460 cm long, 198.5 cm wide and 105 cm high. The 962 Le Mans weighs 1080 kg and has a 5-speed manual gearbox. In just 2.7 seconds the Dauer 962 Le Mans sprints from 0 to 100 kph/ 60 mph. The maximum speed lays at 402 kph/ 250 mph. The 962 Le Mans is road-legal and is manufactured by Porsche and Dauer Racing. Only 50 cars were made.

24 WM P88 Peugeot

WM P88 Peugeot WM P88, a V6 powered car, with 950hp. In 1988 a WM Peugeot P88 - specifically prepared to exceed the 400 km/h barrier rather than making it to the finish - recorded 407 km/h down Mulsanne. For the occasion Michelin had supplied WM with special narrow tyres to reduce the drag. About three hours into the race the cooling intakes were taped over for further drag reduction.

23 Bugatti Veyron

Bugatti Veyron The Veyron is a short, curvy two-seater with massive power. Its 1,001 horsepower engine has four turbochargers. The car's features sound like those on a jet: diffuser flaps, air-intake scoops, a tail wing that acts like an airbrake and 1.7 miles of cable to power onboard electronics. on the common vehicle. The seven-gear, all-wheel-drive Veyron is so fast that its designers customized three different suspension modes: a mode for "standard" driving below 136 mph; a "handling" mode engaged when the front diffuser flaps open, the body drops closer to the ground and the tail wing and spoilers are "deployed"; and a third "top speed" mode, used for speeds above 233 mph, that has to be manually activated with a separate key.

22 Porsche Carrera GT1

Porsche Carrera GT1 The Porsche Carrera GT with its streamlined complete bodywork speeds up like a world-class runner on the road. This high-performance Carrera GT with technology of the future sports a V10 engine allowing for more than 600 horsepower and a lay out of burning edge technologies letting in a ceramic composite clutch and brakes below its carbon-reinforced body. Porsche claims that the Carrera GT can skip from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds.

21 Porsche 917/30

Porsche 917/30 The 917-30 was the ultimate evolution of the 917, with a 5.4 liter 1200 HP 12-cylinder engine. Prepared by Penske Racing and driven by Mark Donohue it dominated the 1973 Can-Am series. In the 1973 CanAm series, the turbocharged version Porsche 917/30 developed over 1100 bhp , and as much as 1500bhp in qualifying tune. The 917/30 could go from 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds, 0-100 in 3.9 seconds and 0-200 in 10.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 245 mph+. These staggering levels of performance, the attendant fuel thirst of the engines, and ever increasing risk, has led to the 917/30 sometimes being cited as the car that killed CanAm racing.

20 Hennessey SRT-10 Viper Venom 1000

Hennessey SRT-10 Viper Venom 1000 The fastest and most powerful limited-edition street car in the world. Only 24 were built for the 2006 production year. With these figures, the Venom 1000 is one of the only road-legal cars that can now challenge the Bugatti Veyron.

19 Colani Le Mans

Made in Switzerland,900hp,max speed:410 km/h

18 Lamborghini Diablo VTTT

Only a very few Lamborghini Diablo VT's were converted to Twin Turbo versions, actual numbers are not available but most sources state only 6 have been built originally. The original price was about $ 500.000, but for this amount of money you would get between 600 and 750 Bhp depending on turbo pressure, with a 0 to 60 mph time of only 3.2 seconds. A very nice touch was a dash-mounted switch with three settings, one for valet use which limited the engine to about 3500 rpm, the second setting controlled a 6 psi boost delivering around 600 Bhp while the third one was a full 750 Bhp with 9 psi turbo pressure. All this led to a top speed of a healthy 358 Km/h. (222 Mph).
